Very well painted in a rich silvery underglaze blue and having a barbed rim,
the central roundel depicting a bird perched upon a rock

amongst branches of blossoming chrysanthemums and other flora,

the rounded cavetto with richly diapered border,
the rim having large shaped panels of peaches, pomegranates and birds alternating with panels of chrysanthemums,

and divided by narrow panels of jewels sided by diapering;
the verso also well painted with shaped panels of peach sprays divided by narrow panels of lingzhi;

"chatter marks" verso

"This dish with pheasants (Pl. 87) is of particular interest as he panels have motifs that appear

for the first time on this type of border : the peaches and pomegranates are always accompanied

by a small bird and some are panels are filled with chrysanthemums."

Similar examples reside in the Museum Adrien-Dubouche, Limoges, bearing the Wanli Mark,
and a larger example in the Troesch Collection, Switzerland (Pl. 87)

Condition : Excellent overall, with mnimal superficial rim glaze fritting; several firing flaws;
a small restored chip and related stable 1.25" hairline.
