The large and thinly potted lobed dish with scalloped rim,

painted in a bright blue with a Mongolian hunting scene

depicting two hunters on horseback hunting two hares within a mountainous landscape,

within a border of stylized scrolling lotus, alternating with eight Buddhist symbols;

the verso with an apocryphal Chenghua (Ming Dynasty 1465-87) six character mark
within two concentric circles and bordered by with16 stemmed upright flowers

Ref : Illustrated and discussed in "The Choice of the Private Trader", David Howard, page 42,

where Howard notes that the Chenghua mark (1465-1487) was not intended as a forgery,

but rather a compliment to the quality of the piece,

and was used to replace the Kangxi mark as the emperor had

forbidden the use of his name on porcelain for export after 1682.

Condition : Excellent, with the usual light fritting to Kangxi plates of this period
