M. FORD CREECH ANTIQUES & FINE ARTS
LATE VICTORIAN / EDWARDIAN GILT STEEL & CERAMIC-CLAD IRON STICK STAND
England, c1890-1910
|
Of half-round form, the gilt steel demi-lune dividers supported by three long uprights
surmounted by brass and steel screw-on urn-form finials,
over a demi-lune black-painted deep ceramic-covered iron base
Note : These stands, so popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, still
serve to accommodate either cane collections, or the umbrellas and canes in use today.
As well, in the late 19th century, the use of 'gilt steel' (as on this stand),
found favor over brass on British campaign furniture due to its lighter weight.
Condition : Good to excellent with expected spots of wear to the paint on base
24.5" High x 17" Wide x 9.5" Deep
