VERY GOOD QUALITY COPPER ALLOY HEEMSKERKCANDLESTICK

The Netherlands, c1650

 

Very Good Quality Copper Alloy 'Heemskerk' Candlestick, Dutch, c1650 

 

Of very heavy weight and excellent form, the nozzle and stem solid cast,
the spool shaped socket with a small round hole to either side
and slightly flared at the aperture, over a ring and ball upper shaft
and slightly upturned mid-drip ring,
the lower shaft with a large ringed ball between two further small rings,
raised on a domed and flaring base; excellent patination
and good "bell metal" type coloration (denoting higher percentage of copper)

 

Ref : Domestic Metalwork. 1640-1820, Gentle & Feild, p. 123, Pl. 12, for an almost identical example

 

This Heemskerk form, although generally presumed to be Dutch,
is also believed native to England during the 17th century.

 

Condition : Excellent without breaks or repairs
