With excellent color and patination,
the front and sides crossbanded and inlaid with sycamore banding;
the upper section with rectangular top above an oyster veneered sloping fall opening to reveal
a baize writing surface and seven pigeonholes,
all above a long oyster veneered cockbeaded drawer sided by two lopers and within a waist moulding;
the lower section with three oyster veneered long graduated cockbeaded drawers,
all raised on shaped bracket feet;
the banding to each side surrounding parquetry of varying colors of timber;
retaining key and ostensibly the original closed batwing brasses
It is highly unusual to find yewwood oyster veneering,
being much more usual to find walnut or olivewood.
Also note the unusual placement of the brasses,
corresponding to the banding rather than centering on the drawers,
Condition : Excellent, with marks and scratches commensurate with age and usage;
several small repairs around the escutcheon plate and to the veneers;
surfaces with a sympathetic 'repolish', retaining the surface's original character throughout;
overall and exceptional and well executed piece of furniture
