Early George III Mahogany-Framed Library Open Armchair, Blind Fretwork Legs, England, c1770

 

The straight upholstered back over padded arms
ending in out-curving scroll-carved handholds above moulded curved supports
and a trapezoidal upholstered seat,
raised on blind fretwork legs with openwork returns, H-form stretcher ;
the cream and gold damask covering applied with close-nailed tacks

 

Condition : Excellent color and patina; the tip ends of one carved knee return missing

upholstery appears new and in excellent condition; the seat with springs.

 

36.5" High / 25.25" Wide Over Handholds / 26" Deep / Seat Height 17.75"
