SET of EARLY GEORGE III SILVER TABLE & DESSERT KNIVES FOR TEN

5 with mark of William Portal, London, c1765 (Haftmaker & Brother of Abraham Portal)

Matching assembled set of 10 dinner knives and 10 dessert knives, of identical form, each with flat-sided silver pistol handles

and crested en suite (save one dessert knife) with a falcon’s head erased (Fairbairn’s 48.6); modern stainless steel blades

appropriate to period in the scimitar form

 Most unmarked, 5 with W (pellet) P in rectangle (Grimwade #3258); (William Portal was both brother and apprentice to

Abraham Portal.  Abraham Portal was one of 5 apprentices to Paul de Lamerie.)


Condition: Good with usual minor dents to the hafts; most showing separation of blade and handle; no splits;

one with small hole to silver at scroll terminal
