raised on 6 six turned ring and baluster supports, two being hinged gatelegs,
the legs connected by lower rectangular stretchers
each supported on bun feet

"Tables specially designed for writing do not seem to have been made in England until towards

the end of the seventeenth century.....Late Stuart writing-tales were made in oak, walnut, prince's wood, etc.

and had rectangular folding top, two of the legs swinging out to support the flap.

This type of table was also used for cards and other purposes, the legs being of baluster or tapered pillar form."

Condition : Good to excellent for age and usage;

retaining excellent color and patination, with a 'repolish' as some time in its history;

two small losses to of veneer to the stretchers; several replacements to interior burr walnut banding;

bun feet replaced, as with the great majority of walnut bun feet of this age;

evidence of prior wood worms with no current activity
