RARE KANGXI BLUE & WHITE "TRIPOD" TEAPOT
China, c1662-1680
|
The diminutive globular teapot raised on three splay feet,
and softly painted in to each side with an outlined cartouche,
one of three figures having tea in a garden before mountains,
the reverse side with three geese on a riverbank amongst stylized foliate sprays,
with peach sprays above and below the spout,
the cover painted with stylized flowers within double blue lines,
and connected to the teapot by a white metal collar and belcher chain;
blue splashes to and beside the loop handle
Note :
Teapots on raised three feet are spoken of as "tripod teapots".
They are somewhat rare, most teapots resting on a footrim.
Condition : Excellent, with only minor fritting and glaze wear and skips to the foot;
tiny restoration to spout and handle;
firing flaws (glaze separation) to the interior junction of feet
