The Arms of the Family of Holloway

The arms as engraved upon this George V English Sterling Silver Folding Splash Guard
by C.J. Vander Ltd hallmarked London 1933 are those of the family of Holloway.
They may be blazoned as follows:
Arms : Paly of six argent and or a fess gules between three crescents argent a canton ermines
Crest : Out of a crescent or an antelope's head gules attired collared and chained gold
Motto : A Deo lux nostra [Our light comes from God]

Upon the balance of probability and without any evidence to the contrary
this folding splash guard was at one time in the possession of a descendant of Horatio Francis Kingsford Holloway
(born 7th June 1807 died 20th October 1870), of Marchwood Park, Eling, near Southampton
in the County of Hampshire and his wife, Mary Ann Breton (baptised 6th May 1822 died 6th February 1874).
Horatio and Mary were married at the Parish Church of All Saints, Southampton on the 10th March 1841.
The 1851 Census for England and Wales records that Horatio and Mary had six children,
three sons and two daughters. Horatio was the son of Horatio Martelli and Catherine Holloway.

When he was a student at Brazenose College, Oxford, he
petitioned for a Royal Licence to take the name and arms of Holloway in compliance
with a proviso contained in the last will and testament of his late maternal
grandfather, Thomas Holloway, sometime of Chancery Lane in the County of
Middlesex; the Royal Licence being granted on the 5th July 1828.

Here it should be noted that none of Horatio and Mary's sons lived into the 20th Century.
Therefore, I can only surmise that one of their two surviving daughters,
Mary Catherine (died 1936) and Adah Georgina (died 1944) or Mary Catherine's
surviving son, George Adam Gordon B. Boyes (died 1946) by her husband, John
Edward Boyes (died 1915) may well have commissioned this folding splash screen in
order to match an existing suite of family silver.
