The Crestrail Carving of Chinese Influence
England, c1710-20

A quite elegant English chair with subtle Chinese influences,
having a graceful scroll-carved yoked crestrail above a (bended) back and solid vasiform splat;
the front cabriole legs with interior c-scroll carving and pad feet,
the raked rear legs block-and-turned, and joined by block-and-turned stretchers;
the trapezoidal seat recently covered in hand painted Chinoiserie silk
Condition : Excellent with normal wear appropriate to age and usage;
a thin splinter-loss to the interior of a rear leg, nice early surface with good patination;
the seatrail interior marked VIII
