QUEEN ANNE BRITANNIA SILVER STANDARD MARROW SCOOP
Lawrence Jones, London, 1714, Crested

Of heavy gauge silver and usual double-ended form,
the long scoop with a wide larger bowl, that verso being engraved with a crest :
a tower

(similar to Fairbairn's 156.2)

"A tower", the heraldic symbol for "strength and grandeur",
was a very popular crest in Great Britain, and difficult to definitely attribute.
Fairbairn's Book of Crests of the Families of Great Britain and Ireland, Pl. 156.2,
lists the crest of "a tower" as belonging to over 60 families, of English, Irish and Scottish origin.
This crest does appear contemporary to the 1714 manufacture of the marrow scoop.
More we are unable to precisely obtain.

Marks : All excellent, crisp and without over-casting;
Maker's mark, Grimwade #1557, entered 1697

Note : Marrow scoops were introduced about 1690.

Condition : Excellent

8-7/8" Long / 1.9 oz.
