Pair of George I / George II Cuban Mahogany Side Chairs, England, c1720

 

Having deep rich color and patination,
each curved crestrail centering a concave paperscroll
and descending into cyma-curved stiles, siding a cyma-curved vase-shaped splat
above a trapezoidal seat with shaped wide seatrails,
raised on cabriole legs with carved scrolled knee returns, ending in pad feet,
the slightly raked back legs chamfered to the interior and
connected by a single turned stretcher;
slip seats left in the muslin for owner's upholstery

Condition : Excellent, with the usual small nicks, dents and minor restorations to each;

the slip seat frames original
