KANGXI SILVER-MOUNTED LONG ELIZA MUSTARD POT & COVER
The lidded jar painted in bright blues with panels of the 'Long Eliza'* figure in a fenced garden,

the shoulders with prunus sprays,
the cover with two panels of flowerheads
alternating with two figural panels of the 'Dancing Boy'*,
surmounted by a round knop;
the neck with a foliate-engraved silver collar with hook the silver belcher-type chain
attached to the cover knop; the verso with an artemesia leaf in underglaze blue
* The 'Long Eliza' depiction of a slender Chinese lady with a flower
was very popular one on both Kangxi and later European porcelains.
In The Netherlands, she was named 'Lange Lijs', or 'Lange Lijzen',
which became 'Long Eliza' in English.
The motif is frequently combined with that of the 'Dancing Boy',
('Zotje') as shown here, as on this particular mustard pot.
Condition : Excellent; firing crack to the glaze at handle base.
