Of quite heavy gauge silver, the large sauceboat of oval bellied form
with wavy edge and
leaf-capped double scroll handle with shell attachment,
raised on
three large shell feet issuing from further shell caps, the body
crested :
a stag’s head couped at the neck, arg., attired, the tongue
hanging out,
Fairbairn’s 121.9, for Cottington; Errington (formerly
Stanley, Cheshire); Greene;
Stanley, Bart., Cheshire
Mark : maker’s mark partially rubbed out but identifiable
Condition : Good to excellent, two feet very slightly pushed in as
is characteristic of tripod sauceboats;
small repair (rejoin) to handle bowl
upper juncture; without splits or further damages
8” Long / 10.4 oz.
