GEORGE III JACOBITE INTEREST OPAQUE TWIST WINE
England, c1760 / Daffodil & Bee

The ogee bowl finely engraved with the Jacobite symbols :

a daffodil with foliage,
and a bee,

above an opaque twist stem containing a 12-ply spiral band outside a pair of spiral tapes,
the conical foot with rough pontil mark

The Jacobite Symbols Daffodils and Bees :
Daffodils symbolized 'hope'- the return of spring,

and akin to the sunflower, the return of the Stuart reign.
Bees symbolized both 'fertility' and 'resurrection' to new life out of decay,
as they were believed to produced from decaying animals.

The butterfly, moth and bee all have the same meaning
and were used with the same intent : the return of the soul –

the connection once generally maintained.
Hence Mahomet admits bees to Paradise.
Porphyry says of fountains that they are
"adapted to the nymphs or to those souls which the ancients called bees".
