SPANISH BRASS CANDLESTICK, c1690-1710

 

 The square paw-footed base (indicative of Spanish design) surmounted by a wide acorn- shape knopped shaft and elongated nozzle.

Ref : An almost identical candlestick is pictured in The Brass Book, Schiffer, p. 168, Fig. C, with the comment,

"The feet are the most sophisticated and detailed of any of the footed candlesticks shown".

RARE SPANISH BELL METAL CANDLESTICK, c1690

 

The dished base with a high-raised band within an octagonal foot, surmounted by a bobbin-knopped shaft and elongated nozzle;

distinct reddish tinge to the metal; hand made threads; very rare

Ref : The Brass Book, Schiffer, p. 189, Fig. A shows a candlestick with same foot and spiral shaft. In Figure C, he notes :

"The high-raised band on the base relates this to seventeen century Spanish candlesticks."

and an elongated spool-form nozzle

The square dished base surrounded by canted corners surmounted by bladed knops to the shaft and an elongated nozzle with ejection hole;

very slight reddish tinge to the brass

Ref : See Domestic Metalwork, 1640-1820, Gentle & Field, p. 130,  Figure 30, for two similar sticks with acorn knops.
