CHINESE EXPORT SILVER-MOUNTED FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN CHOCOLATE POT

Qianlong / Jiaqing, late 18th century

 

 

Of early 18th century “lighthouse” form with tapering vertically fluted body enamelled in famille rose enamels heightened with bianco sopra bianco, iron-red and gilt, depicting peonies beside a basket with pomegranate,

melon and finger citron, all beneath a band of flora alternating with insects,

the hinged silver-mounted domed cover similarly painted and with knop finial,

side loop handle at right angles to the spout; the mounts unmarked

 

Chinese export chocolate pots are quite scarce.

 

Condition : Slight rubbing to painted decoration in several places; gilt in very good condition
