CHINESE CANTON ENAMEL EUROPEAN SCENE FLUTED DISH
Qianlong, Mid-18th Century

The small fluted dish exquisitely painted in famille rose enamels in enamel on copper,
depicting a lady and gentleman in 18th century European dress,
each holding a wine glass (in obvious enjoyment), a pine tree nearby and mountains behind;
within a soft puce triple line border and an
outer with border sepia-outlined gilt scrolling foliate and flowerheads on a soft turquoise ground;
the verso with further gilt scrollwork centering a puce seal mark
Condition : Excellent; superficial and minor .75” diam. star crack to the base

Note : Chinese painted enamel on copper developed in the late 17th century.
It was produced mainly in the city of Canton, Guandong province in southern China, for export.
Decoration was usually in the form of figures, flowers, and insects in the “famille rose” palette.
