SILVER-MOUNTED MOLDED STEINBOCK HORN SNUFF BOX

Germany, 18th Century

 

 

Of Steinbock horn the oval lidded box with fluted sides and an end thumb grip,

the lid and verso each molded with a seated ibex between trees and before mountains,

the rim with unmarked silver mounts gilded to the interior

 

Condition:

Very good to excellent with normal softening to the details of the lid carving,

the carving verso quite crisp;

wear consistent to age and usage of the silver mounts
