17th CENTURY DELFT MANGANESE & YELLOW LOBED CHARGER

The Netherlands, c1680-90

 

 

The large round dish of 8-lobed form, painted in manganese and yellow, edged with a bright blue rim,
the deep central octagonal well depicting two Chinese ladies dancing in landscape featuring trees and clouds,
all sided by draperies,
the lobed rim with four panels of Chinese figures seated before what appears to be a stream,
before trees, clouds and variously depicted suns, alternating with stylized foliate and floral sprays;
the octagonal well painted in yellow and manganese with two dancing Chinese figures,
the shaped rim with alternating panels of further seated figures and stylized flower sprays;
the verso with manganese X's and O's between lines

 

Condition : Some typical rim chipping, mostly verso;
the rim with a short rim hairline and a spider crack
