Quite scarce, the round shallow bucket with engraved linework as staves, sided by two short rectangular handles,

the similarly engraved lid mounted with cast recumbent cow-form finial, with original matching silver underplate, also

with engraved stave linework; marked on tub, lid verso and finial, and on underplate

Note: Charles Fox is considered one of the best of the 19^th century makers, having consistent high quality.

He was one of the last of individualist plateworkers prior to the Victorian era of over-embellishment. The

butter tubs with silver receptacles were almost exclusive to him, most having glass dishes.

Condition: Excellent; marks slightly rubbed but clear; one small pin-point ding to top
