TANG DYNASTY OCHRE GLAZED POTTERY BOAR

Northern China, 618-906 AD


 

 

The recumbent boar with incised bristles on the neck ridge, and covered with a yellow ochre glaze,

characteristic of yellow glazes produced in Northern China during the Tang Dynasty, possibly Henan

The boar was a symbol of wealth and good fortune in China at this time.

 

Condition: Excellent

 

Boar length: 4.25”
