SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY PORCELAIN YINGQING (QINGBAI) BOWL

China, probably Jiangxi, 1127-1279

 

Very early porcelain, the interior with mold-impressed decoration of 2 boys playing amid pomegranates and lotus scrolls,

symbolizing the preference for male offsprings; fired upside down on the rim, the footrim partially glazed

China, 13th century

 

Deep heavy porcelaneous bowl with slightly everted rim and high sharply cut unglazed footrim; good pale blue-green qingbai glaze

 

Condition: slight glaze wear to 2” center of the bowl interior bottom

 

6 ¾” D
