SONG DYNASTY BLACK GLAZED PORCELAIN BOTTLE VASE

China, Northern Song Dynasty, 11th-12th Centuries

 

 

The small bottle vase of pear shape with everted rim, the lower body vertically ribbed,

covered in a thick black glaze with unglazed ribs, slightly flared unglazed reddish footrim

 

Condition:  Excellent

 

Note: For a similar black glazed vertically ribbed vessel, see He Li, Chinese Ceramics,

p. 165, Pl. 305, and p. 196.  This form was produced at the cizhou kilns (Hebei), zibo kilns (Shandong),

and lushan kilns (Henan).  Two examples recovered from tombs dated to the early 11th century, and to 1210.
