SCARCE LOWESTOFT MINIATURE (TOY) TEABOWL & SAUCER
England c1762-65, "Island Pattern", Painter's Mark '13'

 

 

 

A scarce Lowestoft teabowl and saucer, painted in brilliant underglaze blue,
depicting a Chinese riverscape with pagodas, trees and sampans
within single line and "berry" borders;

the teabowl footrim with a painted decorator's mark '13' in underglaze blue

"This was the standard pattern on miniature Lowestoft teasets from the early 1760's until about 1770,
when it was replaced by the Chinese Garden scene."

 

Condition : Excellent; beautiful color; slight runniness to the saucer glaze
a small glaze skip to the saucer rim; no chips, cracks or restoration observed
