RARE GEORGE III ENGRAVED BRASS & IRON FOOTMAN TRIVET

England, c1780

 

 

The bowed top engraved with a forest scene below five radiant stars, surrounding a shaped handhold above

a skirt, delicately pierced with interlocking circles and diamonds accented by four convex stippled circles

between two bands of openwork with further circles, above a beaded lower edge,

raised on slender iron legs connected by a stretcher,

bowed to the front, the front legs cabriole and ending  in flattened ankles and pad feet

 

Note :

A trivet of identical form with slightly different engraving is pictured in The Brass Book, Shiffer,

p. 404, Pl. E, with the comment : “rare and very desirable footman trivet”.

 

Condition : Excellent, with expected wear, 2 small separations, and a small v-dent to the bowed front

 

14” High x 12” Wide x 11.5” Deep (overall)
