In the early Hanoverian pattern* with upturned tip, the deep oval bowl with rattail attachment,

the terminal scratch engraved for two generations: C over W * L, over T over I * M

 

Condition: Excellent; maker’s mark struck to one side, the bowl with the very slightest right hand tip wear

 

*Note: The Hanoverian pattern was introduced into England about 1710. The maker’s mark is listed in

English Goldsmiths & Their Marks, Jackson, p.166, as I.V below a horse head in a shaped shield, as

found on a marrow scoop with London date for 1704 (Messers. Crighton Bros.)
