CHINESE EXPORT FAMILLE ROSE COVERED TEA CANISTER

A similarly painted Derby coffee cup is illustrated in Watney Catalog I, lot #395, p.191

         

       

 

    

 

 

 

Of lidded baluster form on a spreading foot, the body and lid painted with two famille rose panels of Chinese figures :

   

the front with two ladies seated beside a table looking at a vase of flowers;

the verso two boys with a dog beside a tall stand holding a bowl of fruit;

     

the cover with corresponding panels painted with fruit and flowers, all reserved on an underglaze-blue ground

further reserved with a pattern of white blossoms, leaves and scrolls

- probably made as  a replacement for a Chinese export service

 

Condition: Excellent; minor expected gilt wear; no further flaws observed
