QIANLONG CHINESE EXPORT FAMILLE ROSE JUG

China, c1765

After the English & European Examples

The hard paste bellied jug with a leaf-molded spout and fern-like leaf-molded handle, painted with scattered floral

sprays in underglaze blue, overglaze puce and iron red. Although the overall bellied shape is Chinese, the molded spout

is more in the manner European silver and ceramics, including Meissen and Worcester, the latter using

a molded mask spout after c1760.

Note:

As a rule, the English and European porcelain manufacturers and painters took their inspirations from silver,

as well as Chinese and Japanese porcelains.  On some very rare occasions, the Chinese copied the English and

European wares – usually in hard paste, as this example, but occasionally in soft paste.  In the case of the latter,

it is often very difficult to determine the Chinese origin.

Condition: Very good; invisible star crack to the glaze on the bottom that does not go through to the ceramic

5 ¼”” High x 5 ½” Wide
