RARE PAIR FRENCH FAIENCE POLYCHROME SEATED LIONS

Probably Luneville, c1800

 

 

A mirrored pair of lions, couchant gardant,
whimsically painted in shades of black, gray and violets, with black-lined yellow manes,
each face with cobalt blue eyes, and showing teeth and tongue picked out in reds,
the ears laid back and pierced;
the tail wrapped about the hindquarters and with yellow and black tassel,
and resting on a rectangular sponged grassy plinth

 

Condition : Excellent, with very minor crazing and a several chips to the glaze of each

 

18" Long x 14" High
