GEORGE II DRAWN TRUMPET WINE GLASS
England, c1750

drawn trumpet bowl raised on a plain stem above a conical foot with snapped pontil

good weight, striation, nice grey tone and good ring; folded foot and small tear in stem

 

 

GEORGE II JACOBITE INTEREST AIRTWIST WINE
England, c1745-50

The funnel bowl engraved with the Stuart 5-petaled rose and accompanying two buds

(symbolizing James II, and his heirs Henry and Charles, later known as Bonnie Prince Charlie),

an oak leaf (Charles II escape from the Cromwellians by hiding in the Boscobel Oak tree in 1651)

and a sun (restoration of the Stuart kings)

 

 

EARLY GEORGE III DOUBLE SERIES OPAQUE TWIST WINE or ALE

Irish Interest, inscribed THE YOUNG ROCKS OF HOWTH
England or Ireland, c1765

Howth Peninsula forms the northern tip of Dublin Bay. Its rocks date back 550 million years, to the

Cambrian period, making them the oldest rocks in Ireland,

with evidence of human habitation to 3500 BC. 

 

 

GEORGE II ENGRAVED LIGHT BALUSTER WINE GLASS

England, c1740-1750

Engraved leaf and flowerhead border, above a triple-knopped stem resting

on a circular domed foot; collector’s label verso : CJC with numbers

 

 

GEORGE III ENGRAVED MASONIC FIRING GLASS

England, or Possibly Ireland, c1800

engraved with Masonic emblems :

the compass and the square sided by the level and crescent concave female moon to the left,

the concave male sun and the plumb to the right,

the reverse side with a contemporary conjoined script monogram “HG”;

 

 

GEORGIAN DECEPTIVE TOASTMASTER’S GLASS

England, c1820

With a single applied loop handle to the side.

Toastmasters required special glasses with deceptively shallow bowls
to enable them to consume less alcohol with repetitive toasts.

 

 

GEORGE III ENGRAVED OPAQUE TWIST STEM ALE

England, c1780

An opaque corkscrew spiral twist stem, the bowl engraved with barley and hop sprays

Provenance : Christie’s London, 1982

 

 

GEORGE II ENGRAVED AIRTWIST ALE GLASS

England, c 1750

The airtwist stem with a wide annular knop, the bowl engraved with barley and tendrils,

Exhibited : The Loan Exhibition of English Drinking Glasses,

Guilford House, London,  October, 1980

 

 

GEORGE II ENGRAVED BALUSTER WINE GLASS

England, c1730

A heavy glass, the bell-shape bowl waisted with a solid base decorated with fruiting vine,
above an inverted baluster stem headed by a flattened shoulder knop on with flattened knop,
the stem having an unusual spiral tear
