MID-18TH CENTURY CARVED GILTWOOD LOOKING GLASS
PROBABLY SWEDISH , c1755

 

 

The arched rococo carved crest with a stylized foliate and shell cartouche,

sided by 2 further foliate cabochons on a matted ground,

the outer edge with carved flowerheads,

above an molded frame and beveled rectangular 2-part plate,

the base with corresponding rococo carved decoration;

retaining the original gilding and 2-part plate

 

Condition : Excellent;  minor expected rubbing to the gilding,

with the bole and gesso are softly showing through in places;

minor areas of touch up; the original plates with expected scattered silvering losses;

minor signs of old worm

A personal note :  I usually prefer much flat mirrors but
