LIVERPOOL SOFT PASTE PUNCH BOWL
Seth Pennington & John Part, England, c1790

Front

Reverse

The deep round bowl in soft paste, printed in bright underglaze blue with 2 opposing Chinese riverscapes
with pavilions on islands connected by a bridge with two figures, the interior with a similar scene,
but with a figure in a sampan, the interior rim with roe diapering above an arabesque-diapered line; unmarked.
The ground arrangement is reminiscent of Worcester’s Rock Strata pattern, also in blue and white.
For a similar example, see The Watney Collection Part III, Phillips New Bond, London, lot 1126
The Pennington and Part rather provincial style of painting in strong blues has a particular charm
lacking in the more sophisticated Worcester and Caughley wares.
