HAN DYNASTY PAINTED POTTERY HORSE AND RIDER

A superb Chinese painted pottery soldier, seated astride his horse, painted in red and white slip, the soldier's hands

 and horse's mouth with holes where a leather bridle and reins would once have been held.

Condition: cracks to the soldier's head; chipping to hooves; invisible restorations to legs.

 

Note: Similar, though larger, horse and riders, are illustrated in the catalogue (Pages 84 & 85), that accompanied

the Chinese Government exhibition titled  "War and Peace", Treasures of the Qin and Han dynasties.
