Early George II Silver Baluster Form Cream Jug, John White, London, 1730

 

 

Of heavy gauge silver, the baluster form body with faceted stepped spout above a drop,
raised on three cast scrolled faceted legs issuing from trefoil headings and ending in stepped hoof feet,
the cast and applied scroll handle with nice ending;
marked verso, and engraved with initials H over W*E
 
Provenance : Mr. and Mrs. Winston Guest
 
Note regarding John White :
"White is a mysterious figure, as his work, somewhat rare, is of high quality and Huguenot character
without there being any apparent connection in his training or parentage." Grimwade, p.699

 
Condition : Excellent condition and quality; no repairs or erasures visible; one foot tilted slightly upward;
sits level on table; verso marks visible on the interior, as is appropriate
