GEORGE IV SILVER TWO-PART WINE FUNNEL
Matthew Boulton, Birmingham, 1824
Of quite heavy gauge silver, the tapering 2-part funnel with
three applied vertical ribs and having pierced detachable strainer,
gadrooned edges and shell form clip, the curved spout with full
length,
engraved with a crest of a cat rampant gardant gu (M’Kellar,
Kater, Grant, MacPherson)
Note :
Matthew Boulton was not only an important British silversmith
who was active in establishing the silver assay office in Birmingham, but he
was a pioneer with James Watt in the development of the steam engine, making
possible the mechanization of factories and mills throughout the United
Kingdom. His techniques were also applied to minting coins, striking
millions of coins for the British Royal Mint, as well as for other
countries.

Condition : Very good to excellent; one small nick to the tip of the
spout;
a few very minor "bruises" to the bowl; a few dings to the
strainer rim gardooning
