M. FORD CREECH ANTIQUES

GEORGE II SILVER TUMBLER CUP

Possibly Ebenezer Coker or John Holland II, London, 1755-1756

The short round cup with rounded and weighted bottom, for automatic righting of position

Condition: Excellent; lower half of maker’s mark rubbed; the mark most resembles that of Ebenezer Coker, with two round

loops at the top; another tumbler was found with similar marks (misstruck), attributed to John Holland II

Note: Tumbler cups were made from the mid-17th century, throughout the 18th century, and

occasionally later.  These are very plain small bowl shaped drinking vessels, hammered up from a single sheet.

The sides became thinner are they rose, leaving a heavy bottom, so that the cup would automatically right itself.
