GEORGE II EARLY MASONIC FIRING GLASS
England, c1750

  

 

 

An early example of a Masonic firing glass,
the heavy trumpet bowl over a short thick stem and foot having a rough snapped pontil,
the bowl engraved with a compass with concave pivot,
between a crescent moon and concave sun in splendor,
and over a level and plumb and a square

 

Note : Freemasons in England only began to engrave their glassware about 1750.
The forms involved at the time were firing glasses for toasting, and flasks.

 

Condition : Excellent
