Of elegant form, the ovoid body beneath slender flaring neck and curved spout, surmounted by a conforming

knopped hinged lid, circular stepped pedestal foot and applied loop handle; the body engraved with an armorial

shield, contemporary script monograms engraved verso: T.H over R.S.M

 

Condition: Excellent; crisp marks: the lid marked with a lion passant

 

Note: Wakelin & Taylor were very important late 18th century silversmiths.  Wakelin appears

in the Jewel Office accounts in 1797 as “Goldsmith and Jeweler to the King” for several

items. Georgian covered silver wine ewers are somewhat scare – especially with silver handles.
