GEORGE III OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE LARGE TEA TRAY

England, c1800

 

 

 

 

A quite large tray of rectangular form, the plain field centering a coat of arms above the motto: argent,

in main azure two pheons argent in chevrons argent, on a fess argent three arrows argent, renaissance shield with mantling

 and surmounted by the crest of a peafowl, affronte and rising above the motto “NON FRANGO” (I do not break);

 gadrooned rims and handles, the handles issuing from acanthus leaves, tinned verso

 

Condition: Excellent, with only slight bleed to the handle apexes; usual minor scuffing; not resilvered; rolled over edges

 

Length (over handles): 30”, width: 17 ¾”
