GEORGE III INLAID SATINWOOD & HAREWOOD TEA CADDY

Of hexagonal form, the top and front with inlaid boxwood and harewood* paterae, the front sides inlaid with

harewood diamonds, edge stringing, brass ring lift and inlaid keyhole escutcheon, opening to a single lidded mahogany

lidded compartment, retaining early key

 

Condition: original finish; the inner lid with original paktong paper; several minor veneer cracks to lid at back;

harewood retaining excellent green coloration

 

*Harewood – white sycamore, often dyed green and used for inlay during the late 18th  and early 19th centuries
