GEORGE III HIGHLY FIGURED MAHOGANY SERPENTINE CHEST OF DRAWERS

WITH BRUSHING SLIDE

England, c1790

 

 

The single board figured serpentine top
over a conforming case with a mahogany brushing slide over four full width cockbeaded drawers of graduated depths,
raised on a shaped apron and French splay feet;
the brasses of rare Dublin two-part form,
certainly original throughout, inset verso with no further holes and good shadowing beneath the rings;
the highly figured tight-grained timbers with excellent faded but vibrant color;
the drawers and backboard with the usual central support of c1790;
the back with original red wash (shown below)

    

Condition : Excellent, with good color and patination; well cared for;

the shellac finish probably Edwardian; shrinkage crack to the slide, which is still deeper in coloration

 

34.5" High x 40.25" Wide x 22.5" Deep
