FRENCH TERRESTRIAL TABLE GLOBE
Lebegue & Cie, late 19th century




The 7” globe with colored printed paper applied to a papier mache sphere, engraved brass meridian half-circle,
raised on an ebonized turned wood pedestal base, printed J. Lebegue & Cie, 30 Rue de Lille, Paris, made for the Minister
of Public Instruction, drawn up by R. Barbot, Geographical Engineer, the text in Spanish
Lebegue & Cie was one of the leading globe-publishers of the late 19c. They produced a wide range
of models, and published in several languages. Among the terrestrial globes published by them were those conceived
by Dubail and by Bardot. A branch company functioned in Brussels under the name of A.H. Lebague & Compagnie
and this produced J.C. Bernhard's terrestrial and celestial pair as well as A. Cornelis relief map of Belgium. Their line also
included astronomical curiosities, such as fancy clock globes.
The firm was active at the Paris address from approximately 1880 – 1910.
Condition:
Very good, with several small areas of minor paper lift
