Among the most charming 18th century English porcelains were the naturalistically modeled forms - intricately
shaped after various flora and fauna, rocks, and shells. Leaf-shaped dishes were perhaps the earliest of the
naturalistic porcelains – an influence attributed to the contemporary leaf-shaped dishes of Japan.
Overlapping leaf-forms were made by Meissen as early as the 1730’s, and from c1750, interpreted
by most English manufactories. Leaf-molded forms eventually grew to include not just dishes
– which would have been part of a dessert service.
Length over stem handle : 13-3/4”
