EARLY QING DYNASTY CHINESE YELLOW DRAGON INCISED PORCELAIN BOWL

Chenghua mark, Probably Kangxi, late 17^th / early 18^th Century

Of deep round form with everted rim on a straight steep foot, incised with 2 opposing 5-toed

dragons chasing the flaming pearl, above incised stylized lotus petals, the verso with an

underglaze Chenghua (Ming Dynasty, 1465-1487) mark within concentric circles

Note: Yellow is the ancient Chinese palace favorite color. The 5-toed dragon also represents State, or

Imperial use. The emperor wore robes of the dragon, and used yellow porcelain and cutlery. Yellow was

chosen because it represents the noble, decency and meticulous in the Chinese culture.

Condition: small secure original firing flaw to the base, visible in interior image above; no chips,

hairlines or repairs
