BOW PORCELAIN UNUSUAL LEAF-MOLDED DISH
England, c1765-70

The molded leaf with upright edges, boldly painted in blue and white, centering an unusually decorated grape stem beginning
as a curved stem handle, issuing 2 opposing grape leaves and ending in 2 clusters of grapes, on a leafy painted blue
ground within a shaped feuille-de-choux rim, the verso with a pseudo Oriental character mark
Condition: Excellent with only a few tiny rim frits; usual Bow kiln speckling to verso; reflections on decorated surface only
This is a rather unusual Bow leaf dish - both in the stem painting, and the dish form. Although the ceramic, painting and firing are
definitely Bow, the ceramic mold appears to be of Chelsea, Meissen or Worcester inspiration. It is not a form that Bow originated.

Chelsea Molded Leaf Dish with high sides and curled stem
Ref: For a Bow leaf dish of the same form, but with more restrained painting to the stem,
see Bow Porcelain, Gabszewicz and Freeman, p.80, #116
10.25” Long
#5867
