17th CENTURY IVORY, TORTOISE & EBONY COLLECTOR’S CABINET
c1660-1690, Northern Italy (probably) on Late 18th Century Stand)

An arrangement of seven dovetailed drawers with tortoise panels surrounded by ivory borders and ebony molding,
the central vertical door with architectural cornice depicting a figure a carrying water jug, other engravings including a
dachshund chasing a hare, scrolls, and soldiers, the sides with geometric inlaid further panels of ivory and tortoise;
the 18th century ebonized top with inlaid boxwood oval and stringing and mahogany banding, the corners with inlaid
mahogany rosettes, hand cut nails; cabinet secondary woods of Spanish cedar; set on a late 18th century English ebonized
pine stand with tapering club foot; mortise and tenon joinery; formerly set on bun feet, the peg holes still present
Condition: Very good; right front foot with worm erosion and back loss to cuff; one horizontal and one "hare" panel
of ivory with a painted wood substitute; expected light age yellowing and staining to the ivory; several cracks and
repairs to the ebony; age cracks the ivory and tortoise inlay; some minor scuffs to the ebonized stand
